About the event
Our beautiful church dating from the 14th century with records of a church on this site since 13th century, also doubles as Weatherfield Parish church on Coronation Street and has featured in many story lines over the years. But truth can be
stranger than fiction...
Especially for Prestwich Arts Festival: escorted guided tours at 1pm on the 21st & 22nd, and 28th & 29th September will point out the graves of artists, poets and notable carvings, verses and monuments, some grade II listed. Though we may sneak the odd murder in too!
Meeting point will be the Cenotaph at St Mary's Church. Free event - no booking required. Weather permitting - approx 45 minutes long. Presented by the St Mary's Churchyard Action Group.
Regular tours will also run at 11am & 3pm on Saturday 21st September and 3pm on Sunday 22nd September for national Heritage Open Days and will tell the sad and shocking stories of murder, the lives and deaths of the rich and famous, spurned inventors, nationally successful engineers, scientists, poets and botanists, and brave soldiers who gave their lives for their country.
