About the event

Celebrate the talent of Prestwich's young people at this celebration event of our children's literature competition - Imagine That! - featuring Prestwich's own poet extraordinaire, Tony Walsh!

Over the last few weeks our talented local young people have been busy creating their own masterpieces: 4-11 year olds have designed the front cover of their favourite book, while 11-16 year olds have been challenged with writing the first chapter of the next book of their favourite story. All entrants will be invited to this very special celebration event - so make sure you've entered!

The event will be hosted by our very own Prestwich-based poet and friend of the festival, Tony Walsh. "Now a national hero" (The Guardian) and known to audiences worldwide following his 2017 Manchester poem "This Is The Place", Tony is also an acclaimed writer and performer for children. He has delivered hundreds of acclaimed performances and workshops in schools from Keswick to Kazakhstan. The author of two poetry books for children, Tony was recently a guest presenter on CBBC's famous Newsround programme and his performance in celebration of 60 years of Blue Peter earned a standing ovation at the 2018 Children's BAFTA awards ceremony. "Astounding!" @BAFTA

Tony has a wide range of both funny and inspirational poems for children of all ages and promises to turn our awards ceremony into a rip-roaring, fun-filled whirlwind of words for all the family. Tony will also take a few questions from any budding young writers attending and there'll be a chance for photos and signed books afterwards.

All welcome - no booking required!
